What is a partial payment?
Published
A partial payment covers part of an invoice. It changes neither the invoice nor its revenue nor its tax - it only reduces the receivable, and the remainder stays subject to the original due date.
On Al-Waha's running example
The 34,500 invoice, a 20,000 payment (its receipt voucher is on that page):
Remainder = 34,500 − 20,000 = SAR 14,500Invoice status: partially paidThe remainder's age: runs from the original due date - a payment doesn't rejuvenate the invoice
That last point is practical: a customer paying a small slice each period can look "cooperative" while the balance ages - ageing reads the remainder, not the latest payment.
Frequently asked questions
A payment covering one invoice plus part of another?
Allocate explicitly: close the first, book the rest partially against the second - and the allocation appears on the customer statement so their books can match.
Do I issue a document for the partial?
The receipt voucher with its amount and allocated invoices suffices - no new invoice, no touching the original.
A customer proposes instalments on the remainder?
A credit decision, documented as a schedule agreement, with payments tracked against it - one unchanged receivable, only its collection calendar changed.
